History of the Greeting Card!

The custom of sending greeting cards can be traced back to the ancient Chinese, who exchanged messages of good will to celebrate the New Year, and to the primeval Egyptians, who conveyed their greetings on papyrus scrolls.

By the primeval 1400′s handmade paper greeting cards were being exchanged in Europe. The Germans are known to have printed New Year’s greetings from woodcuts as primeval as 1400 and handmade paper Valentines were being exchanged in various parts of Europe in the primeval to mid-1400.

By the 1850′s the greeting card had been transformed from a relative expensive, hand prefabricated and hand delivered gift to a favourite and inexpensive means of individualized communication, due largely to advances in printing and mechanization, as well as the 1840 introduction of the postage stamp.

Technical developments like color lithography in 1930 propelled the manufactured greeting card industry forward. Humorous greeting cards, known as studio cards, became favourite in the late 1940s and 1950s.

By the late 1980s, there was a thriving market for what were called substitute greeting cards, and the study stuck even though these substitute cards changed the entire industry. The trend was away from what was known as the standard look(sometimes called the Hallmark look).

The American Greeting Card.

A fellow titled Louis Prang, a German immigrant who started a small lithograph business near Boston in 1856, is generally credited with the begin of the greeting card industry in America.

Within ten years of founding his firm, he had perfected the color lithographic process to a point where his reproductions of great paintings surpassed those of other graphic arts craftsmen in both the U.S. and Great Britain. In the primeval 1870s, Prang began publishing deluxe editions of Christmas cards, which found a ready market in England. In 1875, he introduced the first complete line of Christmas cards to the American public.

Basically there are two types of greeting cards.

Photo Greeting Cards, in current years, have gained wide-spread popularity and comes in two main types. The first types are pic inserts in which a hole has been cut in the center. Your pic slides in just like a frame. The second types are printed pic cards in which the pic is combines with artwork and printed, usually on a high-end digital press, directly onto the grappling of the card. Both types are most favourite for sending holiday greetings such as Christmas, Hanukkah & for baby showers.

Standard Greeting Cards. A standard greeting card is printed on high-quality paper and is rectangular and folded, with a picture or decorative motif on the front. Inside is a preprinted message appropriate to the occasion, along with blank space for the sender to add a signature or handwritten message. In the last few years the capability to change your card has reached the point where you can actually upload a individualized picture from your hard drive of you computer.

I was Born in Southwest Va. in 1938. I now make Jacksboro Tn. my home.Married with 3 children, 7 grandchidren, 5 great-grandchildren. My wife Paulette and I were married in February 1961 in Harrisburg Pa. Just to let you folks know how much in love I was, we had 38 inches of snow that day, we got the automobile stuck before we even got out of the driveway but determined to get hitched we managed to get to the church on time.

I was born in a small town called Pound, which lies near the Kentucky and Tennessee state lines. Father was an underground coal miner, my mom was a home maker, I don’t ever recall her working outside the home, of course she had a full time job raising five kids, two boys and three girls, plus we always managed to raise a few crops on the seven acres we had, we also butchered a couple of hogs in the winter time, so this was enough to keep my mom busy, canning vegetables, working with the hog killing etc. I am chesty to state my childhood was one of lots of love, respect, and good counseling. In short I had a wonderful childhood and never regret one minute of it. I only wish the young people of this day had the same environment to grow up in as I did.

He has been on formula for about 1 or 2 weeks and has been consipated once. My friend puts a small amount of brown sugar in her baby’s as it stops it apparenty but im a bit hesitant of eeding my bub sugar at such a young age. Has anyone else used this method or know of any others? Im going to Dr for my 6 week check up next week so ill ask there but till then any ideas?

i just feel like this is my month?

For some reason I had this feeling yesterday after I woke up and took my BBT that I should take an OPK. Normally I would state it was way to primeval but I had a feeling I should do it anyway. So I did my normal routine, did the OPK-and it was POSITIVE.

We did the BD two days before, yesterday, and today- I am praying that my instincts were another way of god telling me that this is it-i dont want to miss it.

My ovulation was predicted for this day by ff after I plugged in my OPK results, but with all the cramping yesterday-i think that was the day.

Anyways now I am in the dreaded 2WW-I really have this feeling this is it-but dont want to test primeval for fear of dissapointment.

Does anyone have any recommendations to refrain the stress of the 2WW?

Your chart looks promising so far. When I was in the 2WW, I actually tried so hard not to focus on it that I lost track of the days and ended up testing 16 DPO! I purposely did not have any HPT’s in my home that time around because I was exhausted of testing primeval and it always being negative until I started AF. I know it’s far easier stated than done, but try to keep your mind off of it as ideal you can and focus on other things. Haha, yeah right, if only it were that simple. Good luck and sending lots of baby dust your way.

Historically, organic farms have been relatively small family-run farms[1] – which is why organic food was once only acquirable in small stores or farmers’ markets. Now, organic foods are becoming much more widely acquirable – organic food income within the United Says have enjoyed 17 to 20 percent growth for the past few years[2] while income of conventional food have grown at only about 2 to 3 percent a year. Fresh Organic Foods
Fresh, “unprocessed” organic food, such as vegetables and fruits are bought directly from growers, at farmers’ markets, from on-farm stands, supermarkets, through speciality food stores, and through community-supported agriculture (CSA) projects. Unprocessed animal products like organic meat, eggs, dairy, are less commonly acquirable in “fresh” form.

In Australia[7] and elsewhere[citation needed], organic eggs must be from free-range hens, rather than from battery chickens. Animals for the organic market might not be fed growth hormones or drugs such as steroids or antibiotics.

Identifying organic food
At first, organic food comprised mainly fresh vegetables. Early consumers interested in organic food would look for chemical-free, fresh or minimally processed food. They mostly had to purchase directly from growers: “Know your farmer, know your food” was the motto. Personal definitions of what constituted “organic” were developed through firsthand experience: by speaking to farmers, seeing farm conditions, and farming activities. Small farms grew vegetables (and raised livestock) using organic farming practices, with or without certification, and the individual consumer monitored.

Consumer demand for organic foods continues to increase, and high volume income through mass outlets, like supermarkets, is rapidly replacing the direct farmer connection. For supermarket consumers, food production is not easily observable, and product labelling, like “certified organic”, is relied on. Government regulations and third-party inspectors are looked to for assurance.

A “certified organic” adjudge is usually the only way for consumers to know that a processed product is “organic”.
